According to Ayurveda, Amla is a rare fruit with five taste attributes i.e. pungent, bitter, sweet, astringent and sour. Amla is mentioned as the balancer all three doshas and some famous Ayurvedic preparation with Amla, Triphala and Chyavanprash contain Amla as an important constituent. Amla fruit is reported as a great rasayana meaning a great rejuvenator and the one that promote vitality and longevity. It is called as yhrudya meaning the one which strengthens the heart.
