lauki is consumed throughout india as a vegetable. lauki is low in fat and cholesterol, and is rich in vitamin c, vitamin b group vitamins (except vitamin b12), iron, etc. it is recommended in ayurveda for diabetes, high blood pressure, stomach upset, liver ailments, weight loss, etc.
a three month study on human subjects done in india showed lauki juice to have favourable results in diabetes and lipid imbalance management. there was a noticeable reduction in systolic blood pressure.
a study done on lauki fruits in mice have indicated the lauki juice to useful in preventing and managing skin papillomas (benign growths on skin). a study in rats indicate lauki juice to supportive in hyperthyroidism.
